Purchasing A New Vehicle - Some-Thing That Is Challenging To Do As A Mother Or Father

Parenting is a hard & demanding job. It's also a job that you can't retire from. Even when your kids are grown, living by themselves and making an income, you still feel a sense of responsibility and a need to give advice. We have found that our kids are once again interested in our input. For a few years anything that we said held little to no value to our kids but now that they have completed college and are taking on more responsibility for themselves they're eager for advice - you can give them solid advice on a myriad of economic topics, like how to get rid of debt.

Our oldest son is quite independent. We not ever had to help him get rid of debt. He has always been such the quite hard worker and is the most frugal of our children - that's why getting rid of debt was never an issue. He liked to save cash and is a fantastic comparing shopper. He has not ever been one that has felt that it's important to have brand name clothes or shoes. He has a very practical side to him. Due to this I was surprised when he informed me that he wanted to purchase a brand-new vehicle. He has always been the one to talk about how quickly new cars depreciate and how you not ever make-up for that depreciation. When I brought this up to him he said that he didn't care. He is making a great income and he has scrimped and saved his entire life, so he wants to purchase a new motor vehicle as a treat for the hard work he has done. He said that he knows that when he chooses to get married & to start a family he may not be able to afford to purchase a new vehicle so he wants to do it now.

I told my spouse about the conversation I had with our son. My husband was dismayed that our son would go into debt for a new car. He thought there were other ways he could spend his money. I told my husband that at the start I felt the same way, but then I recall the first & only brand-new car that I purchased. It was fun to know that I was driving a vehicle that nobody else had driven. Once we were married and started our family we could not afford a new car, we always bought program vehicles to get a better value & additional equipment. After listening to me my husband agreed that everyone should own at least one new motor vehicle in their life time.

A couple of weeks passed before our son drove up to our house in his brand-new car. He chose to purchase a new car that's a hybrid. He is getting great gas mileage and the car has a nice sporty look & feel to it. He said that the reports are favorable for the vehicle to hold its re-sale value, and there are enough of the hybrid cars on the road so most of the bugs have been worked through. It's neat to see how proud he is of his capability to buy a new car and save money at the fuel pumps.
